This morning we are at anchor at St. Anne Island and some folks have gone off to Moyenne, one of the smaller islands, for some swimming. Us? We slept in. Not in any rush to get going because we have a bird watching hike in Cousin Island this afternoon so we hit the gym for some cardio. This little ship is really well set up for lounging and the weather has been fantastic; sunny and around 30 degrees but a nice breeze seems to find its way around the ship all the time.
At 11:30 sharp we hit the Patio Grill for our first burgers of the cruise. I stick to the salmon burger with sweet potato fries, Blake the obligatory hamburger, no cheese no tomato. We sail for a couple of hours to our afternoon destination, Cousin Island, but just as we arrive the captain announces that the conditions are not good and we won't be staying after all. We keep on going to Praslin Island, home to, among other things, beautiful Anse Lazio -one of the top 10 beaches in the world. We go to the beach for a couple of hours, it is beautiful alright, and the ocean is bathtub warm; we go for a bit of a swim and a walk on the powdery sand and then head back to the ship. A bunch of huge tortoises pose for us, they actually love to be petted, a nice neck rub would do nicely, thank you.
As we drive through the small village we spot a gym -this is very exciting (ok, Blake gets excited) so I know where we'll be spending some time tomorrow after our hike.
Praslin is the second largest of the 115 Seychelles islands and tomorrow we'll go an a hike to Fond Ferdinand. There are two types of islands in the archipelago, granitic ones like Mahe and Praslin, and coral ones. I'm really looking forward to hitting some of the smaller islands in the next few days.
The zodiac rides are very cool. We'll be doing some kayaking and a ride in the submarine too. Stay tuned for that.
Tonight we had an awesome lobster dinner and hang out till late on the Cove listening (and dancing) to Mark Farris. Loads of fun on this very laid back cruise.
